Prodigy Cultural Arts Annual Showcase
On March 1, ONIC’s Prodigy program celebrated “The Art of Discovery” with its annual youth showcase at the Orlando Repertory Black Box Theater, featuring students’ visual and performing arts with dinner and dessert.  Hip-hop music production, comedy, dance, and a gallery of student art were featured.  Over 145 guests attended including residents from ten ONIC communities, and the extended community. <more>
ONIC celebrates 30th Anniversary
On September 22, 2015, ONIC celebrated its thirtieth anniversary with a luncheon at Leu Gardens. Approximately 120 people attended. Three ONIC residents shared their experiences living at ONIC communities. Hillary Wiley from NeighborWorks® America also spoke to the group. To see the program booklet, click here.
ONIC acquires control of City View
On August 27, 2015, ONIC acquired Bank of America Community Development Corporation’s share of the general partnership (GP) interest of the City View apartments and retail shops. ONIC is now the sole GP. At the same time the first mortgage debt was refinanced to take advantage of the low interest rate environment. City View has 266 apartments and 23,000 square feet of retail space.
O’Neill Foundation awards $70,000 to ONIC for technology upgrades
The William J. and Dorothy K. O’Neill Foundation awarded ONIC a $70,000 grant in June, 2015. The grant will be used to purchase 32 computers, 8 tablets, and related equipment for computer labs at all ONIC communities. These computer labs will be available for residents’ use for such needs as access to benefits, employment information, test preparation, resume preparation, research, etc.

Expanded Clubhouse at Boca Club Opens

On August 14, 2015, ONIC and the Wells Fargo Foundation cut the ribbon on an expansion of the clubhouse at Boca Club. The expanded facility houses a new computer lab, a meeting/classroom, and workspace for ONIC’s resident services staff. The expansion was funded by a $215,000 grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation.
City View Honored at Golden Key Awards
On December 5, 2015, the Apartment Association of Greater Orlando (AAGO) named City View the Affordable Community of the Year and the management team from JMG Realty the Service Team of the Year.
Disney Gives $10,000 to Support ONIC Youth Anti-bullying Program.
On March 30, 2015, ONIC received a $10,000 grant from Walt Disney world to support ONIC’s “Get Up, Get Out, and Give Back” after-school, anti-bullying youth development program. The program engages children 5-17, and empowers youth to transform their communities in a real and positive way, big or small. Through weekly activities and service projects, participants will improve their life skills and well-being. These include the ability to manage challenging circumstances; avoid bullying and bystander behaviors; and engage with their community positively and constructively. ONIC Chair Mary Hurley and Resident Services Coordinator LaSonashia McFadden received the award at the event.

Emerald Villas wins Golden Key Award from Apartment Association.

Emerald Villas has received the Golden Key Award for the Renovated Community of the Year, Medium from the Apartment Association of Greater Orlando. The award was presented at the AAGO annual dinner on November 2, 2013 at the Hilton Orlando. Emerald Villas is a 264 unit apartment community acquired in foreclosure by a joint venture of ONIC and the Related Urban Development Group of Miami. <more>

Wins Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer’s 2013 Community Builder of the Year Award!
On February 23, Mayor Buddy Dyer presented the City of Orlando Community Builder of the Year Award to ONIC Board Member Fronie Jones. You can read about it at the Mayor’s webpage by clicking HERE. Congratulations to Fronie!
ONIC listed as 14th Largest nonprofit in Central Florida.  
Orlando business journal’s 2013 Book of Lists ranks ONIC as tied for the 14th largest nonprofit organization in Central Florida, as ranked by revenue. <See excerpt from OBJ>

In May 2009, ONIC closed on the acquisition of a 96 unit apartment community at 7701 Acorn Woods Circle, Winter Park, in the Goldenrod area.

ONIC wins prestigious award from Bank of America

Just before the holidays, ONIC was named a Neighborhood Builder™ by Bank of America in its Neighborhood Excellence Initiative awards program in Orlando. These awards recognize and reward individuals and organizations that are making a difference in the Orlando community.
The Neighborhood Builder™ award is given to two local non-profit organizations each year that have actively worked to improve their communities. Recipients receive $200,000 of "unrestricted" grant funding over the course of two years, which can be used to cover operating expenses and build program capacity. ONIC recognized as a Champion of Sustainability
ONIC was recognized as a Champion of Sustainability at the 3rd Annual Champions of Sustainability Awards Luncheon held on April 21, 2005. The Healthy Community Initiative of Greater Orlando with sponsoring partner MSCW presented awards to nine organizations and individuals at the event. ONIC was honored for building sustainability through economic leadership for its work to help build an economy that supports a place where all people can flourish.
ONIC wins grant from Disney's Helping Kids Shine Grants Program…
On April 7, 2005 ONIC received a $7,000 grant from the Walt Disney Helping Kids Shine Grants Program. The goal of the program is to “engage children in society by creating healthy, guiding relationships with grown-ups, providing free time activities, offering character-building opportunities, and encouraging a sense of compassion for others while helping those children who face adversity.”

ONIC will use the grant for its youth programs.

Al Weiss, President of Walt Disney World, presented the award to ONIC Chairman Aida Martin and Resident Services Director Alexis Collins at a ceremony at the Magic Kingdom. Thirty five other Central Florida agencies also received grants.

Cityview wins prestigious award from the National Association of Home Builders.
On April 5, 2005 the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) honored the “best of the best” in the multifamily housing industry with its Pillars of the Industry Awards, presented in conjunction with its annual conference for apartment and condo developers, owners, and managers. Considered the most prestigious national awards in the industry, the Pillars Awards honor excellence in apartment and condo design, development, marketing and management, and are looked to by the industry and the media as a showcase of future trends and innovation in multifamily housing.

City View at Hughes Square received the award for “Most Creative Financing of an Apartment Community.”

City View was also a finalist in the category of “Best Overall Sales or Leasing Campaign for a Multifamily Community.”

Two projects at Celebration also won awards.
